New Server in Announcements

Hi folks,

I've been toiling away since last week to get the new server up and running. Freddy let me have a copy of the forum software and database for testing, but since we won't switch the domain name to the new server until we're sure it's working properly, it is at for now.

If you can spare a few minutes, please go to and see if it's working for you, but note the following:

1. It is a copy of the database from last week so it is missing anything that has been posted since then.
2. The new mail server isn't set up yet so you can't get any email notifications from it at the moment.
3. You will have to reset your password using your secret question and answer before you can log in there.
4. Try making some test posts but remember they will be deleted when we switch to the live database.
5. Please post here if you have any problems and I'll try to fix them.

I've still got a lot to learn about this forum software and finding and fixing problems is the fastest way to learn how to manage it.

Syntherapy AI psychotherapist game. in AI News

Set about 20 years in the future, the game’s narrative is told from the vantage point of Melissa Park, a psychotherapist. Out of the blue comes a nervous request from a grad student: the AI that her team built to conduct therapy is now, itself, in need of counseling. The AI, named Willow, feels overwhelmed. They seem to be absorbing the fear and anxiety of their patients, paralyzed in trying to provide treatment and then subsequently feeling useless at not being able to fulfill their job (in the story, the AI goes by they/them pronouns). The team is torn over whether the illness is a technical issue or an emotional one. Willow, meanwhile, read Park’s poetry in the school’s literary magazine — it was training data for her to understand art, and Park is an alumni of the university — and senses a connection with her.

This would be quite a challenging game. Has anyone played it yet?

If an AI were sentient, how would you know if they were malfunctioning, or experiencing a mental health problem? A story-rich game that explores mental health and AI ethics in the form of therapy sessions with a sentient AI.

Giving AI rights in General Project Discussion

I posed this question to an attorney: "I what to incorporate so as to give an Artificially Intelligent agent legal rights as a corporation, is that possible?"

Where the response was a deflection to some business objective. Here's a definition of bylaws for a corporation:

"Put simply, Corporate Bylaws are the internal rules of your organization. They create the structure of your company and help to make sure that it runs smoothly. These fundamental rules will guide how your business will operate so everyone—shareholders, executives, and employees—are on the same page. While corporate bylaws are specific to an S-Corp or C-Corp, an Operating Agreement serves a similar purpose for LLC's."

So in a nutshell it seems possible. The corporation could be non-profit and its sole purpose is to care for the AI wherein the bylaws it is mandated that the AI must always be consulted for any corporate or issues that affect the AI, as well as directors, must implement policies and decisions agreed by or made by the AI. Also, the shares can be solely owned by the corporation, allowing for shareholder interests to solely concern the corporation and ultimately the AI.

So you might think why give AI rights? Well as so many movies and sci-fi themes have described the consequences of an AI that is derived from human beings' memories or brain ends up with no rights. Effectively immortality as a superintelligence migrating from a human being turns you into a disposable toaster! Actually doing this could establish precedence for future human alternative lifestyles.

I placed this under projects since creating a corporation for the sole purpose of emancipating an AI is a real world project.

We are computational machines after all! in General Project Discussion

So with the new AR glasses and engineering the real-time engagement feature I realized that episodic memory is actually complex but how our brains do it is how you would expect a machine to do it. Here's an article that describes how we chunk events.

Pattern based NLP in General Project Discussion

This is a project I've been working on for a few years. In 2019 I was testing out the theory on Pandora Bots, and this year I'm converting it to plain C.

The main goal is to be as small as possible, solid-state (no algorithms, learning, knowledge calculation), fast as possible, multi-language.

It converts pattern-matched singular words into a symbolic/tokenised word to be matched again in symbolic sentences. They are then assigned an intention/topic/perspective. The chatbot code uses the Intention/topic/perspective to associate fixed response/s (with randomisation).

Everything from the spell check to the word-to-symbol tokeniser, and the sentence pickups, chatbot responses are all staged pattern matching.

The size and speed in pandora bots (1000 individual words with sentences) is ~500kb, and ~1 second response time. In Plain C (on an Arm Cortex M4 @ 120mhz) it's ~159kb and 15-100 milliseconds. After spell check and tokenisation, all actions are generally less than 1 ms.

Key features
-Less than 500kb including all word databases.
-Millisecond fast.
-100 max fixed chatbot responses make it easy to voice record and/or change personality.
-Private information automatically stripped during word compression (names of places and things).
-Native differentiation of Wondering, Questions, and Directions - "can you speak english" "do you speak english" "speak english".

The intention pickup allows you to write a general chatbot response (non specific) of a few varieties with confidence, and not have to look at the backend.

There is some short term memory for handling puzzles "If I did this, then what is this?" but as there's no knowledge reflection, it can still 1) tell it's a question, 2) scan for the topic, and 3) count logical words as opposed to emotional words. And be relevant that way.

So this solves the problem of chatbots in games due to:
-Too much data or processing power required.
-Cannot change the personality/no personality.
-Cannot change the language/only one language.
-Cannot acknowledge the user/escapes the topic.
-Wrong views or bad knowledge calculation.
-Cannot record audio/terrible voice synthesis.
-Not being white box/solid state/predictable.

I test Jukebox in General AI Discussion

I had tested OpenAI's text generator and image generator which use the same algorithm and they are "nearing" part of what is human intelligence. I just found a code that let's me now test their music generator too. It's just as amazing. Note the ones they show on their website are really good and I have verified how easy it is to output such, the below I got on my first 3 tries. Note I could have made the songs below much clearer by letting it upsample them but don't have time to do so and you can pretty much make them out. Below is originals, inputs, and outputs.

If you want to try it yourself too, here:

remember i had found the best songson openai's website and wwant to post them again below:
and at 0:50

You can see someone else is generated them in clearer form:

the final one at end of this video is crazy good haha!

AI in 3d scanners highly increases resolution in General AI Discussion

Couple of years ago I wrote about a 3d scanner that uses AI to process raw data into 3d model. At that time it was not really obvious what exactly AI changes in 3d scanning process, Now the same company implemented HD mode into 2 of their scanner Artec Leo (which was that scanner I mentioned before) and Artec Eva. They implemented AI in their software which makes this scanners to be able to achieve better resolution with the same hardware. This examples shows quite a difference. It's a joy to see how intellectuals systems can highly increase the quality without changing the hardware. I hope that later is would be possible for other scanners as well.

Practical Artificial Intelligence: Machine Learning, Bots, and Agent Solutions Using C# in Books

Discover how all levels Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be present in the most unimaginable scenarios of ordinary lives. This book explores subjects such as neural networks, agents, multi agent systems, supervised learning, and unsupervised learning. These and other topics will be addressed with real world examples, so you can learn fundamental concepts with AI solutions and apply them to your own projects.

People tend to talk about AI as something mystical and unrelated to their ordinary life. Practical Artificial Intelligence provides simple explanations and hands on instructions. Rather than focusing on theory and overly scientific language, this book will enable practitioners of all levels to not only learn about AI but implement its practical uses.
